A WOMAN from Wokingham and her colleagues will be taking part in the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge next month to raise money for a cancer charity.

Lauren Baxter and her co-workers at Reading-based paint company Valspar will be climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales respectively over a period of 24 hours.

The volunteers have pledged to raise £10,500 in aid of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, which is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cancer abnormalities.

At the time of writing, the team have raised more than £7,500 towards their target through donations from friends and family.

With no experience of mountain climbing, they have travelled to the Peak District, Brecon Beacons and Mount Snowdon in order to train for the event.

Michael Watson, CEO of Valspar Consumer UK, said: "As a new brand in the UK with a young workforce, we are keen to embed a level of social awareness and responsibility not only into our corporate activities but also into our culture.

"I have been delighted with the staff response and with the energy and commitment they have approached the challenge."
