Several key stage four students from Charters School came out on top at the final of this year’s SATRO STEM Competition.

On Wednesday, March 20, 24 teams from schools across the UK gathered at Royal Hollaway University where they took part in the challenge after a tour of the campus.

The teams were briefed to design and build a machine that could lift up-to 20 Lego bricks one metre from the floor onto a table in under one minutes. When provided with no more than some string, an egg box, some cardboard, a battery, wires and light, the Ascot team completed the task in 41 seconds.

A spokesperson from Charters School in Ascot said: “It was a fantastic result and the judges commented on their amazing design and construction skills, as well as their positive attitude and politeness.  We will be back next year.

“Our thanks to Mrs Cook for supporting the students to be part of this challenge, and very many congratulations to the Key Stage 4 students who represented our school so beautifully.”
