POLICE have been given extra stop and search powers after recent violence in Sandhurst.

A threat of more violence in the area has prompted Thames Valley Police to issue a section 60 order which gives police extra powers to stop anyone in a particular area.

It follows 'disturbance' in Sandhurst on April 12 and covers the areas of Owlsmoor and College Town -shown on the map below.

The order covers the A3095 Rackstraw Road, A321 Marshall Road, Yorktown Road, College Road and the perimeter of the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

Bracknell News:

The order gives police extra powers to be able to search anyone within the specified area without reason needed. The orders are used by police when there is a fear of further violence within an area.

The order is in place for the rest of the day.

Inspector Tracey Croucher-Clark said: “We’re carrying out an investigation following a disturbance between a group of people yesterday evening (April 12), and this order will help us while we continue this work.

“There is nothing to suggest members of the public are at risk, but the Section 60 Order will allow us to reduce the risk of further violence occurring.

“There will be more officers on the streets while the order is in place and during the course of our investigation. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to approach our officers and they’ll do their best to help you.

“If you have any information about last night’s disturbance, please call us in 101, quoting reference number 20240412-2276. You can also make a report online or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
