An attractive pub such as The Royal Foresters in Ascot is somewhere I've often driven past but never thought to pop in.

Last month, the Bracknell News was invited down to try the pub's summer menu ahead of the busy hospitality period.

The Royal Foresters, located on the busy London Road, is a convenient pub nestled between Ascot and Bracknell.

It has a massive car park with ample parking and two large outdoor areas for al fresco dining for up to 80 guests. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I've never stepped foot before.

Bracknell News:

The restaurant is gorgeous outside and is well-known for its ancient Wisteria which grows around the front of the building.

For a Tuesday evening, the atmosphere was busy with professionals meeting for after-work drinks and tables full of friends and families enjoying a bite to eat.

It was great to see the restaurant so full of people (which is always a good sign when trying out new eateries).

Once we stepped inside I could smell wood-fired pizza cooking and hear drinks being poured by several servers behind the bar.

We were shown to our seats and immediately recommended their best dishes to try.

My partner opted for the Porchetta main (£19.50) and I had to go for a pizza (Smokey Aubergine Parma at £15) which is cooked Napoli style.

Bracknell News:

We did the full shebang, ordering the Buttermilk Fried Calamari (£9.50) and Chorizo Scotch Egg (£10).

I thoroughly enjoyed the calamari as it was soft in texture. I've had bad squid before where it's tough as leather but this was not rubbery at all.

The scotch egg was very rich in flavour with the textures of the sausage meat and chorizo fighting one another.

Bracknell News:

The pizza, on the other hand, was one of the best pub pizzas I've ever had at a pub.

The juicy charred aubergine gave a great texture to the mozzarella cheese. The dough was soft yet crispy at the same time and had an authentic taste with the wood fire.

I loved the combination of toppings with ham and the rich tomato base. Admittedly, we went a week later and I ordered the same pizza. It was that good.

My partner's pork dish was thoroughly enjoyed, as the meat fell apart and melted in the mouth.

Bracknell News:

The dish arrived with a tangy apple sauce and creamy mashed potato. He said the mash had a firm exterior like a shell, but this didn't put him off.

The stuffing inside the pork was rich in flavour with fennel dominating the taste. But overall, each component of the meal complimented each other well and the carrots were described as 'chefs kiss'.

As a side dish, we were recommended to try the Harrisa cauliflower (£5.50) and chunky chips (£5.50). The chips mopped up the tasty oils of the Harrisa.

We were bursting at the seams but of course, had room for pudding.

Bracknell News:

We shared the Baked Blueberry Cheesecake (£9) and it was delightful. The creamy filling was light and whipped-like going down a treat.

All in all, the Royal Foresters is a very convenient place where you're guaranteed a delicious meal.

It is open all day from breakfast until late.
