6,000 calories is not a number I was comfortable hearing when ordering a Five Guys at the newly opened restaurant in Bracknell.

But as a one-off treat, I forgot about the huge calorific numbers behind the menu and enjoyed tucking into a burger and fries at the Lexicon on Friday night.

The Bracknell News was invited down to try Five Guys on May 12 to experience a taste of what the new restaurant has to offer in town.

It felt like forever for the restaurant to open but when it finally did on Bank Holiday Monday, I could see why it was so busy.

It felt chaotic when we waiting in the queue, as chefs were quickly flipping burgers and shouting out order numbers to patient customers.

Bracknell News:

Every table was full of happy diners tucking into their meals despite the mad buzz of people quickly ordering, piling up to queue, eating and leaving.

It's a place for convenient fast-food, where you're guaranteed a tasty, good quality, quick meal.

In terms of ordering, you're given a choice of a burger, hotdog or cheese grilled sandwich, fries, drinks and milkshakes.

Portions are large in size with the regular fries (£5.25) leaving plenty of chips left over inside the bag. A small would have sufficed and I dread to think how many chips the large size includes.

The bacon cheeseburger itself (£10.65) was pricey but you get your money's worth. It's incomparable to other brands like McDonald's burgers or Burger King in terms of the taste and texture of the meat.

All of the toppings are included with the burger, hot dogs and sandwiches.

You can choose 'All the Way' which includes mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, grilled onions and mustard.

Or you have the option to customise the toppings with the added choice of relish, fresh onions, HP sauce, Bar-B-Que sauce, Jalapeno peppers or Green peppers.

I got lettuce, ketchup, grilled onions and pickles in mine. Sometimes simplicity is best and this way, I wasn't overpowered by different flavoured sauces.

For my sweet fix, I opted for a salted caramel milkshake (£5.65), with banana and whipped cream. At this point in time, calories really didn't matter and I told myself I'll run it off the next day.

After grabbing some extra condiments and napkins from the self-serve station, I eagerly grabbed the warm bag of food and sat at the table.

Bracknell News:

The burger tasted delicious and the meat was salty, soft and crispy enough around the edges. The cheese, crispy bacon and toppings embedded between the two patties perfectly co-exist between each mouthful.

It was a struggle to finish this as the chips were filling too. They're cooked in peanut oil so I'm not sure if this gave the fries an added layer of thickness to the skin which made them feel heavier.

Either way, I washed each mouthful down with the creamy cold milkshake, tying the whole meal together in a deliciously indulgent way.

I'm super thrilled that Five Guys is in Bracknell, it's what the town deserves.
